The subject

Mathematics is central to our understanding of the world in which we live; it underpins science, technology, medicine, economics and government. The mathematics classroom will provide students with the opportunity to see beyond the horizons set by the problems at hand. Learners will engage in a wide variety of tasks and activities to ensure that all students have every opportunity to fulfil their mathematical potential. We aim to provide every student with the space and time to access all areas of their Mathematical development whilst providing the support to ensure a deep understanding of every area of the Scheme of Work.

Mathematics is a linear subject, in other words everything that you learn is an important building block for the next piece of work. We therefore ensure that over the course of Key Stage Three all students build on their understanding gained at Primary School, whilst also filling in any areas of uncertainty. Mathematics clinics are provided each week in lunchtimes where students who have any difficulties in any area can come to ensure that they become clearer in their understanding.

It is the heart of every Mathematics teacher to see every student in their care discovers a passion for the subject, a desire to succeed and is given the opportunity to fulfil their mathematical potential.

Mathematics, rightly viewed, possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty.
