Mathematics A2 & Further

Mathematics A level

Mathematics A level is demanding but also very enjoyable and rewarding.

It is of benefit if you are studying many other subjects such as Physics, Economics, Chemistry, Computing, Geography or Biology or if you are intending to study a science or engineering based course at University.

It is recommended that students who take AS Maths should have achieved at least a B grade in higher tier GCSE.

Each student will sit three AS modules at the end of the Lower Sixth, Core 1, Core 2 and one other, which will be decided on by the group and the teacher from one of the applied modules available (Statistics 1, Decision 1 or Mechanics 1).

Further Mathematics

Further Mathematics will appeal to the type of student who really enjoys the subject and has achieved an A/A* grade at GCSE.

It is both very challenging and very rewarding. We delve into the higher areas of the subject, including Calculus, Algebra, Complex numbers & Maclaurin’s expansion and we pick a variety of applied modules to explore the full spectrum of Mathematics in order to prepare the students for high level courses at top universities.

The understanding of mathematics is necessary for a sound grasp of ethics.
