The subject
In the early years of science at St Ambrose we aim to deliver science that is not only exciting but relevant to everyday life. As we cover the key stage 3 curriculum over just two years all pupils are challenged not only to understand the essential building blocks of scientific knowledge but to see how scientists face and overcome our modern day problems. In a series of practical based lesson pupils learn how to plan, carry out and analyse a range of increasingly more demanding investigations. Science at St Ambrose is not just confined to the laboratory.
Over the years pupils have participated in a range of extra curricula activities from biology field trips to national science competitions such as the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Chem Quiz and the Salter’s Festival of Chemistry. Visits from post graduate researchers at Manchester University, weekly science clubs and the Institute of Physics “Lab in a lorry” have also helped enhanced students’ scientific experience at the college.
