KS3 Homework Overview

The Rationale

1. Should enrich/enhance the design, practical and knowledge aspects of the
subject.
2. Should reinforce student learning and encourage transference of skills from one
project to another and from one year to the next
3. Should be a continuous learning process and relevant to the lesson given or
preparation for the next.

Homework Policy

Regular homework is a valuable part of a student’s learning process and encourages
the development of a wide range of independent study skills.

It will allow a student to:

-Demonstrate his/her understanding of the work;
-Develop thought of a practical and technological nature;
-Demonstrate and develop skills of research and investigation;
-Develop and practice independent thought and skills.

Duration

Homework is set in line with the homework policy and homework timetable.

1st year homework will consist of a 1 hour task every two weeks
2nd year homework will consist of a 1 hour task every two weeks

Assessment

1. Level descriptors are used to assess the level of attainment for the unit.
2. Self and peer assessment
3. Informal assessment occurs on an ongoing basis, with involvement of the
pupils.
4. Written work is marked within the school marking policy.
