1st Year Overview
In 1st Year, the students undertake a foundation course in Design & Technology. From a given design brief, the pupils will work through the design process to produce their own mini light. The pupils will use a variety of design and rendering techniques, as well as computer aided design and computer aided manufacture, to produce a working prototype of their mini light. The students will have an introduction into electronics and the components that they will use within their circuits. Using computer aided design and computer aided manufacture, the pupils design and make printed circuit boards. Within resistant materials the students will work on an industry based project, exploring a variety of techniques and materials, such as, high impact polystyrene, softwood, vacuum formed housings, mechanisms, linkages and manufacturing assembly lines.

2nd Year Overview
Overview
In 2nd year, the students will go onto the intermediate course in Design & Technology. From a given design brief, the pupils will work through the design process to produce their own moisture tester. The pupils will use a variety of design and rendering techniques, as well as computer aided design and computer aided manufacture, to produce a working prototype of their moisture tester. The students will develop their electronics skills and extend their circuit and components knowledge. Using computer aided design and computer aided manufacture, the pupils design and make printed circuit boards. Within resistant materials the students will work on an Industry based project, exploring a variety of techniques and materials, such as, high impact polystyrene, softwood, vacuum formed housings, mechanisms, linkages and manufacturing assembly lines. In order to aid their option choices, the students will have an introduction into GCSE Graphic Product and the course structure.
