A Level
At A level the students take the Welsh Board syllabus ( www.wjec.co.uk) and there are numerous opportunities to carry out research and fieldwork.
In the Lower Sixth boys study a range of physical and human processes.
Two examination papers are sat G1 and G2. The G1 paper consists of topics examining global climate change, hydraulics and tectonics and physical fieldwork. The G2 paper consists of topics examining population, rural and urban developments and human fieldwork.
The human fieldwork element takes the boys on a tour of the ‘Eastlands, Manchester City Football Stadium’ which is enjoyed by all.
In the Upper Sixth boys study globalisation and coastal issues for their G3 paper. Then carry out research on four elements of sustainable environments to sit their synoptic paper.
The final element of examination involves carrying out a research ‘dissertation style’ unit on a topic chosen by the board.
The calling of the humanities is to make us truly human in the best sense of the word.
