Crown for another Ambrosian...
When one thinks of Ambrosian champions the game of rugby most readily springs to mind. However few people are aware that we have our very own Crown Green Bowls champion in our midst.
James Morgan, third year, is a member of the team which recently won the national championships. James, who represents both Wales U16s and U18s, began playing the sport when he was just aged seven. He is a regular member of the team at Excelsior in Sale, usually playing two or three times a week.
The National Championships, which is held on an annual basis, began for James with his Excelsior U16 team being drawn in a group of four. His side subsequently progressed to the semi-finals, before beating Staffordshire in the final to be named Champions of England. He then went on to compete in the U18 tournament although unfortunately his team eventually lost to Yorkshire in a tightly fought final.
James said, “It is a fantastic sport and I really enjoy it. Crown Green Bowling is an extremely social sport and is great fun”. When asked upon the future, “I think it will just remain as a tremendously good hobby. There is an Isle of Man event which I hope to compete in when I am 16, and I will see how it goes from there”.
