Consultation on St Ambrose College's draft Admissions Policy 2027

The Governing Body of Saint Ambrose College is consulting on the proposed Admissions Policy for entry to the school in September 2027.

The draft Admissions Policy for 2027 can be found below.

Summary of proposed changes for September 2027 entry

  1. Clarification of Admission Authority
The policy now clearly states that the Laetare Catholic Multi Academy Trust is the admission authority, with responsibility delegated to the Saint Ambrose College Local Governing Body.
  2. Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plans
Explicit wording has been added to confirm that where a child has an Education, Health and Care Plan that names Saint Ambrose College, and the child has passed the Entrance Examination, the school will admit the child and the number of available places will reduce accordingly. This reflects statutory requirements.
  3. Faith Evidence and Baptism Dates
Clarity regarding faith evidence and deadlines.
  4. Home Address Definition and Verification
Clarity regarding a child’s home address and address changes.
  5. Oversubscription Criteria Refinement
    • A new category has been added to prioritise non-Catholic boys who have a brother attending the school, ahead of other non-Catholic applicants.
    • The oversubscription tie-break order of priority within categories has been amended to:
      1. Children in receipt of Pupil Premium
      2. Distance from the school
      3. Entrance Examination score
      4. Random allocation where necessary
  6. Access Arrangements
Clarity regarding consideration of access arrangements.

  7. Admission Outside the Normal Age Group
Clearer guidance on how decisions will be made and how requests should be submitted.

Should you wish to make any comments on this draft, please email admissions@st-ambrosecollege.org.uk by no later than Friday 30th January 2026.

All responses will be carefully considered by the Governing Body before the admissions policy is finalised and determined.
