A Level Results 2025

A day of celebration at St Ambrose College as students collect their A Level results.

There was a jubilant atmosphere at St Ambrose College today as Year 13 students received their A-level results, rounding off a year of remarkable academic success and significantly outperforming national trends.

Principal Dermot Rainey shared his delight, saying, “We are thrilled with the results received by our students this morning. In addition to the numerous individual achievements and success stories, the students, as a whole, have set school records across the key measures.”

Over 50% of all grades awarded were at A* or A, compared to the national average of 28.3%. These A*/A outcomes reflect a 10% increase on 2024 and almost a 20% increase on 2023. Particularly notable is that almost 20% of students achieved at least one A* grade, reflecting the exceptional performance of this year’s cohort.

It has been an exceptional year for academic excellence, with four students achieving straight A* grades in all their A-level subjects. In total, a fantastic total of 35 students achieved A*/A across all their A-level subjects, securing places at some of the UK’s most prestigious universities, including Durham, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle, and Edinburgh.

Congratulations to Euen Walsh and Cormac O’Connor, who will both read history at the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford respectively. William Harvey will study law at Durham University, and Oscar Adjeroh has secured a place at the University of Manchester to study computer science.

Building on these successes, several students achieved an outstanding three A* grades and one A. John Demaine will go on to study mathematics and physics at Durham University, while Jon Burke and Patrick Hopkins are both off to the University of Warwick to study mathematics and statistics, and mathematics respectively. Jeswin Joseph will be studying chemical engineering at the University of Manchester.

In addition to these individual successes, there was a strong performance across the A*–B measure, with more than 80% of all A level grades within that range, representing a 10% increase on last year’s results. This rise has helped the vast majority of students gain entry to their first-choice university courses, with 80% of accepted offers coming from Russell Group institutions, another school record. It was a strong year for aspiring medics and dentists, with all students holding offers for medicine and dentistry successfully securing their places at university.

A number of boys have also successfully secured places on prestigious apprenticeship programmes, including with KPMG, Barclays, Jaguar Land Rover, and in the legal sector. A special mention goes to Temi Balogun, who will be going to university in the United States on a full scholarship through the Sutton Trust programme, an outstanding achievement that reflects both his talent and determination.

Mr Rainey added, "Record-breaking headline figures aside, this morning has been about celebrating the hard work of truly wonderful young men. As a cohort, their work ethic and the culture they set was inspirational and has ultimately led to their outstanding and fully deserved achievements today. I know the parents and the students themselves would want to record their gratitude to all the staff for their endeavours and support along the way."
