GCSE students celebrate record-breaking results

Congratulations to our Year 11 students on their well-deserved success.

There was jubilation at St Ambrose College this morning as students and staff celebrated the school’s best-ever set of GCSE results.

The Attainment 8 (A8) score has risen once again to over 76, up from last year’s record-breaking 73.53. This marks the seventh consecutive year of improvement and continues a trend that bucks the national picture. Almost 80% of the cohort achieved an A8 score of 70 or above, underlining the strength of this year’s results.

Half of all grades awarded were at level 9 or 8, while three quarters were at grades 9–7. In English and maths, 68% of students gained at least a grade 7 in both subjects, a rise of more than 10 percent on 2024.

Beyond the headline results, it is the boys themselves who truly stand out. This year, 26 boys achieved 90 points or above, a remarkable accomplishment that reflects not just their academic ability but their resilience and commitment. Amongst them were Thomas Ward, Matthew Baythoon, Aaron Joseph, Samuel Peters and William Ubege, whose performances were rightly celebrated. Special recognition goes to Edward Gillyon and Samuel Rigden who achieved the extraordinary feat of straight grade 9s across all 10 of their GCSEs.

Principal Dermot Rainey praised the students’ dedication and commitment to excellence, saying, "We are absolutely thrilled with today’s GCSE outcomes. The students have once again raised the bar and set new records. The outcomes reflect their drive to succeed and thirst for learning, supported every step of the way by our committed staff team."
